In recognition of Constitution Day, Lewis-Clark State College will host a panel and audience discussion on the 14th Amendment and birthright citizenship. Adopted in 1868, the 14th Amendment established key principles of equal protection, due process, and citizenship that continue to shape our laws and society today. This year’s program will focus on the Amendment’s birthright citizenship clause, examining its historical roots, its role in defining who belongs in the United States, and the contemporary debates that surround it.
A panel of faculty and community experts will share their insights, followed by an open discussion with the audience. The event provides an opportunity not only to learn more about one of the most influential amendments in our nation’s history but also to engage in thoughtful dialogue about its meaning and relevance in our current times.
The discussion is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. Join us as we reflect on the enduring importance of the Constitution and the ways it continues to shape our democracy.
