A Valentine to Idaho and America

Five statewide women’s organizations are inviting the public to a free, uplifting event at the Idaho State Capitol this February. On Wednesday, February 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. MT, community members are encouraged to stop by the first floor of the Capitol to write valentines celebrating Idaho, democracy, and the values we share.

Valentines will be collected and delivered to Idaho’s congressional delegation, state legislators, and executive officers. Participants may choose to sign their cards or remain anonymous. Co-sponsors of the event include the League of Women Voters of Idaho, American Association of University Women, United Women in Faith, Mormon Women for Ethical Government, and Idaho Solutions.

“Idaho’s policymakers are accustomed to receiving requests and demands,” said League President Jean Henscheid. “We wanted to remind them — and Idahoans — of what we value and what we love about our state and country.”

Representatives from the co-sponsoring organizations will be available to collect valentines and share information about their work. Voter education materials and voter registration forms will also be available as part of the ‘Voting is for Lovers’ campaign.

“Members of our organizations are working hard to advocate for shared goals,” said Mary Mosley, president of AAUW-Idaho. “This event is our way of bringing positivity into the political process — something we can all use.”

Blank valentines and refreshments will be provided. All are welcome!
