Mission Statement

The League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Our mission is to empower voters and defend democracy.

  • The purposes of the LWV are to promote responsibilities through informed and active participation in government and to act on selected governmental issues.

  • The League neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties.  

The League of Women Voters of the Lewis Clark Valley (LWVLCValley) have studied and adopted a position in support of the Council-Manager Plan of Government for Lewiston, Idaho. Adopted in August 1977, updated and readopted annually.

The League also has positions on Land Use Planning and Zoning in Lewiston; Charter of Independent School District #1 AKA Lewiston School District #1; Solid Waste; and Library. Our positions are studied and adopted by our members, which give a voice to public policy issues affecting our community.

We advocate for public policies that have been studied and adopted by members. The League is a trusted nonpartisan political organization that adheres to the standards in our mission statement.

Candidate Forum

The League of Women Voters of the Lewis-Clark Valley invites the community to attend a Candidates General Election Forum on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. at the Lewiston Library, 2nd Floor Event Room.

All general election candidates with contested races appearing on the November 3 ballot for Nez Perce County, Legislative District 6, and Legislative District 7 will be invited to participate.

The forum provides voters with an opportunity to hear directly from candidates and learn more about the issues and perspectives that may shape their choices in the upcoming election. Candidate forums are an important part of informed civic participation and give community members a chance to become more familiar with the candidates seeking to represent them.

League of Women Voters of Idaho co-director of voter services Kendal Shaber and Lewis-Clark Valley League Leader and State Secretary Maxine Miller collaborated with the PoliSci Club at LCSC during the college's Student Welcome Back Fair Wednesday August 20, 2025.  The crew helped students and faculty check registration, register on line or re-register online using the QR codes that were posted.  Leader Maxine Miller says, "It is always helpful for the League to provide encouragement for new voters and those using the website to navigate. The League helps provide resource information for voters. "Information is a powerful motivator," Maxine says.
