U.S. Senate and Governor Candidates Meet in Upcoming Forums

Boise, ID – The League of Women Voters of Idaho will join other local organizations in hosting two statewide forums September 30 and October 6. Independent candidates for U.S. Senate Todd Achilles and Natalie Fleming and Libertarian candidate Bruce Loesby will participate in a forum co-sponsored by the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce, the College of Idaho, and the local American Association of University Women (AAUW) on September 30 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of Caldwell City Hall, 205 S. 6 th Ave. Republican Incumbent Senator Jim Risch did not respond to the League’s invitation.

Gubernatorial candidates Independent John Stegner and Democrat Terri Pickens will participate in a forum October 6 from 7 to 8:30 pm in the auditorium of South Junior High School, 3101 W Cassia St in Boise. The League is joined by the local AAUW in sponsoring this forum. Republican incumbent Governor Brad Little did not respond to the League’s invitation.

The Federal Election Commission’s criteria for non-debates will be applied to both forums. Each event will be, “A place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue are exchanged.” A moderator will ask each candidate questions written by audience members. The moderator may interject clarifying questions, and a timekeeper will ensure that each candidate receives equal opportunities to speak.
